PRESS RELEASE Economic Development in Wyandotte County gets a New Name, New Brand Kansas City, KS — The organization responsible for building and strengthening the local economies of Bonner Springs, Edwardsville, and Kansas City, Kansas, is refreshing its image and updating its mission. On Wednesday, October 1st, at the first in a series of quarterly breakfast gatherings, Wyandotte Development Inc. (WDI) investors will take part in a vote that, if passed, would change the name of the organization to Wyandotte Economic Development Council (WYEDC). WDI has had a long history of representing Wyandotte County's economic development initiatives, in both the local and national scene. In 2007, WDI saw a change in leadership for the first time since its inception with the retirement of original President, Jim Thompson. With Thompson's retirement in June of 2007, WDI began a nation-wide search that ultimately led to the hiring of the organization's new president, Brent Miles. Recognizing the Wyandotte County economic development scene has changed greatly since the time of the organization's commencement; Miles and WYEDC's board of directors have been, and will continue to, work hard to expand its economic development role in the County. While historically the primary focus of the organization has been centralized on manufacturing and industrial development, the updated direction of WDI will not only continue to seek out opportunities within these market segments but will also actively seek to connect with all things office, retail and residential.. The new face of economic development in Wyandotte County will take WDI's successful foundation to the next level, starting by taking a fresh approach to how the organization markets itself. From a new name and associated logo to a new website and updated marketing materials, WDI is transforming the way economic development in Wyandotte County is represented. "I could not be more excited about the outstanding development potential that Wyandotte County possesses," Miles said. "It is my privilege as President of this well supported and recognized organization to work with our board to take WDI into the next generation of economic development and elevate our community to one of the finest in the Midwest and Country." WDI's updated look and renewed commitment to expanding economic development opportunities in Wyandotte County is focused on unifying the partners of the organization under the guidance of a new mission statement: "To promote and strengthen Wyandotte County's economy through innovative approaches to programs, partnerships, and leadership in industrial, residential, office, and retail markets." Working cooperatively as a county to achieve this mission, WDI will play a key role in promoting the assets of the entire community to targeted members of the development community. "This is a new Wyandotte County. This is a community that knows how to work together, from government to business," Unified Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City Kansas Mayor Reardon said. "We know that the way that success comes to a community is when we are all on the same page, working together. When we can articulate at the end of the day that a win in any corner of this county is a win for any citizen, I think that's the new era for Wyandotte County." ### |
